Welcome to Year 5
Welcome to year 5! We are delighted to welcome the children and families into a busy, exciting year of learning, growing and achieving together. In year 5, pupils are encouraged to take greater responsibility for their learning, to work with confidence and to show pride in everything they do.
Our curriculum is broad, engaging and designed to help children build secure knowledge across the subjects. We aim to make learning meaningful, memorable and full of opportunities for discussion, enquiry and creativity. Alongside this, we place a strong focus on handwriting, so that children can develop neat, fluent and confident presentation in all their work.
Reading is a key part of life in year 5, and we ask children to read 3 times a week at home. This regular practice helps to strengthen fluency, understanding and enjoyment of books. We also continue to build confidence with times tables, as quick recall supports learning across the maths curriculum. Spellings are taught carefully too, helping children become more accurate and independent writers.
